    Once the firmware update is complete, you need to reset the Bluetooth connection pairing on both your phone and the meter.

    Resetting your phone’s Bluetooth connection depends on whether it’s an Android or Apple device. For Apple devices, go into Settings –> Bluetooth. Find your light meter in the list and tap on the (i) icon to the right. On the screen the appears, tap “Forget This Device”. Return to the home screen and start the Illuminati meter app.

    The process for Android devices varies somewhat by manufacturer and software version. Typically, you go to Settings –> Connections –> Bluetooth. You will see a list of Bluetooth devices. Find the light meter, and tap on the gear icon to the right. A new screen will open, with two options on the bottom. Tap “unpair”. Return to the home screen and start the Illuminati meter app.

    To reset the meter, first ensure its turned off. Then press and hold the power button for about six seconds. The LEDs will flash purple three times. The meter will then start flashing the LEDs blue, to indicate that it’s ready to connect to a phone.

    Your meter should now connect to the phone.

    Hi Naveen,

    We do have a prototype Python3 driver. It was developed on Windows, but it should be useful for developing a driver on a Mac or Linux system.

    Hi Naveen,

    You need to use a serial terminal emulator program to communicate with the Puck. Popular choices are PuTTY (https://www.putty.org/) for Windows, Linux, Mac or minicom (Linux, Max). Set the terminal for 115200 baud, 8 bits, no parity, one stop bit (“8N1”).

    The Puck is intended to be controlled through a programming language such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB, or Labview. They are not really meant to be controlled from the DOS command line.

    Hi Pawel,

    We don’t have a similar table for the IM150 yet, but will soon.

    The main improvements in the IM150 over the IM100 are:

    * More accurate and consistent readings for strobes, especially small or very fast strobes, like on-camera speed lights
    * better color accuracy for white LEDs, especially about 4000K
    * more than 2x the battery life

    Hi Audrey,

    You aren’t doing anything wrong. IF you have an IM150, then it already comes with firmware newer than version 1176.

    As of late Jan 2020, we haven’t released any firmware updates for the IM150 yet. There’s no need to update your firmware.

    Hi,

    While units of Duv are technically accurate, they’re not commonly used. The new color shift units are in full green/magenta units. I.e. a value of +1 is equivalent to a full green filter. Similarly, -1 is a full magenta, +1/2 is a half green, etc.

    Hi Aaron.

    Thanks the excellent measurements. The short answer is yes, your readings are what we see with the IM100 meter.

    I assume you are using a color-temp adjustable LED light source. All white LEDs are made by putting a phosphor coating on top of a blue LED. The blue LED’s light causes the phosphor to emit yellow light, and the combination produces white light. The blue LED’s light spectrum is very narrow – less then 2% of the range of colors visible to humans.

    Despite our best efforts, that blue light occurs right where our blue sensor’s spectral response is a little inaccurate. The sensor’s error is only a few percent from ideal, but the blue LED’s power is all concentrated in a narrow range. So it’s natural that as the LED’s light becomes more blue, the color temp error increases.

    We plan to release an updated version of the meter by the end of the year. Among other improvements, we have increased the color accuracy for cool white LEDs.

    Hi Tom,

    If your meter’s firmware version is 720, you will not be able to update it due to a firmware bug. You will need to ship your meter back to us for firmware updating. Once we update it, your will be able to apply future firmware updates yourself.

    Hi Lee,

    To be clear, you are using the IM100 meter, our first product. I’m afraid your meter is behaving as expected. That product has difficulty accurately measuring the color of cool LED lights.

    All white LEDs are made by placing a phosphor material on top of a blue LED. The blue LED causes the phosphor to emit yellow light, producing white light. The blue LED’s light is a very narrow, pure shade of blue, with a typically 445 to 455 nm. That’s less than 2% of the range of colors visible to humans.

    Despite our best efforts, the meter’s response in that region is slightly inaccurate. That causes white LED readings to be off by about 400K to 800K. The meter’s error is typically +/-50K for most natural and broad-spectrum light sources. Even warm LEDs, with color temperatures of 4000K or less, are accurately reported. It just happens that cool LEDs are a problem.

    WE expect to release an updated version of the meter by the end of the year which, among other things, improves the blue accuracy and thus white LED color temp readings.
